PROPERTY & SCALE
Royal Hawaiian Center is the premier shopping, dining and entertainment destination in Waikīkī. The 4-level Center spans a 3-block stretch of the famed Kalākaua Avenue and has been revitalized and expanded to more than 310,000 square feet of world-class shops, restaurants and entertainment.
Owned by Kamehameha Schools and developed and managed by The Festival Companies, the Center features 100 shops and restaurants, a world-class state-of-the-art live performance showroom and the largest open garden space in the heart of Waikīkī.
LOCATION
The Center is comprised of three main building structures that span approximately 1,200 linear feet along Kalākaua Avenue and 340 linear feet along Lewers Street. The open-air Center is situated on more than six acres of prime real estate in the heart of Waikīkī at Helumoa, which was once home to Hawai‘i’s royalty and more than 10,000 coconut palms, which are the inspiration for the revitalization. The Center is adjacent to the Royal Hawaiian and Sheraton Waikīkī Hotels.
REVITALIZATION
Renovations were made to the Center between July 2005 and June 2008. The Center’s renewed Kalākaua frontage has a softer, elegant look. The expansive new Royal Grove with majestic coconut trees and native gardens welcomes all visitors to sit, relax and enjoy the sounds, scents and soft breezes of Hawai‘i. Enhanced pedestrian-friendly walkways throughout the Center create an open feel while island-inspired furnishings and lush landscaping add to the Center’s comfortable and relaxing atmosphere.
The $115 million expansion of the Center was an investment by Kamehameha Schools. This investment was a commitment to the visitor industry and the Hawai‘i community. This was the first major renovation since the Center initially opened in 1979.
RETAIL MIX
Royal Hawaiian Center houses the largest concentration of flagship stores in Hawai‘i including Apple Store, Cartier, Hermès, Salvatore Ferragamo, The Ferrari Store, Marciano, Bvlgari, bebe, LeSportsac, Rolex Kaimana Kea, kate spade, Tourneau, Juicy Couture, and FENDI. The high-profile corner of Kalākaua Avenue and Lewers Street has been dubbed the “Rodeo Drive of Waikīkī.” From luxury goods to native Hawaiian artisans, shoppers will discover a vibrant mix of local and specialty retailers throughout the property.
DINING
The anchor restaurants, several outdoor cafés, casual eateries and specialty food shops are integral to the experience at Royal Hawaiian Center. The Pā‘ina Lānai offers a casual family setting for guests to indulge their cravings through a variety of tasty treats to tantalize their senses. The Pā‘ina Lānai also hosts the fabulous Grove Bar overlooking The Royal Grove gardens on the second level of Building B.
CULTURE AND ENTERTAINMENT
Royal Hawaiian Center returns to the traditions of Helumoa in Waikīkī with Hawaiian culture and entertainment at The Royal Grove. As one of the largest lush green spaces in Waikīkī, The Royal Grove is a centerpiece for gatherings with local hula hālau and other exciting performance groups. For a hands-on experience, free cultural classes including ‘ukulele, hula, lei making, lomi lomi massage and Hawaiian quilting are offered throughout the Center.
Royal Hawaiian Center also offers the Kaulani Heritage Room, adjacent to The Royal Grove, across from Lei ‘Ohu Guest Services. Here, guests can sit in a relaxing air-conditioned space to enjoy a series of three short films on Hawaiian history and culture.
Hawaiian art is also featured throughout the Center with murals by Hawaiian artist Solomon Enos. The Royal Grove is also home to a bronze statue of Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, created by Sean Kekamakūpa‘a Ka‘ōnohiokalani Lee Loy Brown.
