Complimentary Cultural Programming
- The Royal Grove
- Hula is the art of Hawaiian dance. It expresses all that we hear, see, smell, taste, touch and feel. Hula is life. The late kumu hula — dance master — Maiki Aiu Lake's philosophy expresses the depths of this Hawaiian art form. Puake'ala Mann, a kumu hula graduate of Halau Hula o Maiki, shares basic hand gestures, footwork and body movements that accentuate mele - chant or song lyrics.
Lomilomi Hawaiian Massage
- Building B, Level 3
- Hawaiian massage — lomilomi — is a centuries old healing practice. Pi‘ilani Wright, a certified practitioner, demonstrates lomilomi basics with class participants paired up to learn and apply simple techniques. Partners then switch giving each student the opportunity to experience both giving and receiving lomilomi.
- Building B, Level 3
- Lei, strung flower garlands, are synonymous with Hawaiʽi and hoʽokipa (Hawaiian hospitality). Royal Hawaiian Center invites both kamaʽāina (locals) and malihini (guests) to fashion a lei of colorful, fragrant blossoms in the kui (sewing) style to adorn themselves during their stay, or as a gift to a loved one to celebrate a special occasion. Classes are limited to the first 25 persons, ages 7 and older.
